There are certain advantages to owning a Scout and living in western Oregon at the same time!
Yesterday I took my 10-year-old out for a day of good memories with her pop. We loaded up in the iron beast with a picnic lunch and headed off to Cedar Butte in the TSF. Access to the trailhead is almost 6 miles from the highway, all of it gravel, crushed rock, and some fairly steep inclines. Even though my Scout is largely stock (no lifts, 3.73 gears, Trac-Loc rear, open front, and standard D20) I love the way it chews up loose road surfaces, steep hills, and tight turns (often all at the same time) with never a hint of slippage on any wheel. After our 6-mile "offroad adventure" we parked the Scout and hiked the 3/4 mile trail to the top of the Butte. ![]() Ready to hit the trail ![]() Looking down on our ride from the beginning of the trail - this is one of the only pics I took of thr Scout itself! The last half of the trail was brutal - extremely steep and slippery in places. We didn't fare as well as the Scout had, but we made it to the top! And what a view... ![]() ![]() ![]() I even taught Elizabeth to shoot my .22 for the first time! ![]() |
