CPT stainless vents are going to be installed in the hood. First a paper template was cut out.

Then the pattern was drawn out.

Holes were drilled in each corner.

Cutting between the holes.

Set the vent in place, mark the mounting holes, drill, and mount.

We decided to change the front bars slightly. The tube connectors were basically sleeved so that the tube size could be increased from 1 1/4" to 1 1/2". This gave the connection a cleaner look. Using a file Darren filed away at the tube until everything had a nice tight fit.

Brackets were made for the electric seat bases and welded to the floor.

The dash had all unused openings welded up.

And then all the holes were cut in for the various new a/c vents and cup holder.

Mirrors were mocked up.

Inner fenders were washed and then had all extra holes welded up.

With the inner fenders installed we can mockup other items such as the radiator.

Time for a update on this project.

The Scout was completely disassembled and prepped for under coating. The bottom of the tub was pressure washed to remove any dirt.

We called Brian at RockLiner Coatings to perform the spraying of under the tub. Brian uses a product called Vortex that he applies for bedliners and works great for undercoating as well. He has a portable spray rig and will come to you which for projects like this makes one less trip on the car hauler. Check out Brian's website at www. rockliner.com .

Pop's gave Brian's work a good inspection and made sure it was good to go. Brian will be back at a later date to spray the inside of the tub red which will match the future exterior paint.

With the tub set down on our temporary rolling chassis reassembly of the Scout began.

Any spots of rust on the inner front fenders were properly treated with a rust killer/sealer.

The inner fenders were expoxy primed and sealed.

My brother Mike was up visiting us and jumped in with the reassembly. Here Mike and Darren separated the upper grill from the lower so that the upper could be sent off for chrome plating.

With the rust killer/sealer dry both inner fenders were then sprayed with undercoating.

Before installing the windshield frame a few things had to be done. First was installing a debris screen on the underside of the windshield cowl. This helps catch any leaves from falling down into the lower front fender area which in turn will prevent the spreading of any future rust.

The windshield cowl seal that was on the tub was shot so another good used one(this seal is not available new) was cleaned and installed. Before setting in the windshield frame a thin bead of weatherstrip adhesive was added as extra insurance against water leakage to inside the passenger area.

With the windshield frame in you can see how the weatherstrip glue helps hold the seal against both metal surfaces.

Mike worked on getting all the tailgate hardware in perfect working condition. Even though these parts will be removed when the Scout is at the paint shop we will know that evrything fits and works as it should.

As we were bolting on the front fender we noticed one more unique thing about this 810 Scout II and that it had an extra fender bolt between the inner and outer front fenders.

With the outer fenders now on the doors were then installed next.

And with the body complete the Scout was loaded onto the car trailer......

........and Chad hauled it up to Auburn to Proctor's Autobody and Paint for a nice coat of red paint.

I stopped by Proctor's last month to check on progress and snapped a few pictures while I was there.

Darren spent some time on the liftgate hinges getting those properly reattached to the liftgate itself. I didn't get any before pictures of the booger weld that was on the gate from a previous repair but here are some pictures as the gate got repaired.

Got the Scout back from the autobody shop. All I can say is these pictures do not give it justice. Jim at Proctor's Autobody knows how to lay down the paint and it shows. there is not one flaw that we can find. If anyone is looking for a show quality paint job Jim is the man!

I agree about the Proctor paint work!!! I've NEVER seen a production job as fine as the red 810! I kept trying to find fault and there is NONE! It's more flawless than the finest powdercoat I've ever seen, at first I thought it WAS powdercoat or had been dipped!

The metal work is superb, and that faired-in fuel filler is the crowning touch.
