Default Engine motor mount moved back 2.5"

Well long story short, I need/want to move my engine back a few inches to allow room for a Mark VIII fan and give me some room for my tie rod and oil pan.

The object is to reuse one hole and make the frame mount a bit longer. I cleaned up the frame and bent some 3" x 3/16 flat-bar about 6" long. I then used a piece of flat bar to get the angle correct and welded the mount extension in place. Then repeated on the other side. Next post will be the transmission mount relocation.

Edit. At first I just put the flat bar in the vise and used a hammer to bend it over, but the radius of the bend was larger then the stock bend. I then cut a new piece and heated the bar with a torch to get a tighter bend to match the stock mount.

I need to make sure when I move the transmission mount I can also accommodate a Jeep 727 tail shaft mounting too. I am not removing any of the old mounting locations, just adding new ones. I need take some measurements tonight to figure this out, but here is a pic of both tail shaft housing.

It turns out the IH tail housing has mounting holes space 2 1/4" apart so I just moved the mount from the rear bolt holes up to the front. This will work out fine as the tranny mount has been really tight to the front of the cross member, so hopefully the RTP mount will be in the center of the cross member now. (I will figured out the Jeep cross member another time) Good thing I have a 2" body lift or the tranny would not fit. Now all that extra space from the lift is gone
As much a people don't like body lifts, it does make working on the Scout easier. Next is the firewall mods. I know the pass. side will need to be "adjusted" in an inch or better. I will start with a BFH and if that does not workout I will use the cutoff wheel and welding in some sheet metal. I have a spare motor to use for mock up while waiting for my engine rebuild to be completed.

I folded over the lip on the fire wall and hammer it in about 1/2" more. (will post pic when I pull the motor out) The engine fit on the first try. The picture came out dark as it was dark. But now I can run a Scout II oil pan again. I was running a 73 front sump truck oil pan but want to go back to a rear sump oil pan. The issue was my tie rod could hit the oil pan, now it's much better looking. Still might hit, but I can put an offset like the stock tie rod to give me even more room.

Edit: The ram will get moved to the other side

updated a few more pictures, what look-a-like dyanmat foil has to do with fabbrication I don't know, bit while the drivetrain was out I decide to put some in to help with the road noise and maybe some heat.

I have since moved the ram mount to the other side of the tierod. I added some foil insulation product to where the imitation Dynmat is, and then covered it all with foil tape to make sure it would hold up to cleaning and road debris. Mock up motor is back in as well as the tranny. Need to fab up an exhaust system and fix the drivelines. Verify that everything else will fit.
Will post a few pic's later.

Exhaust parts arrived and started putting that in, but one part was on back order so it's holding up the whole mess. I shorten the drive line, but have not welding it back together as I wanted to install this, just want to make sure everything fits.

Worked on the exhaust. Went with a 2 into one. Napa was the only place that has the 2 1/4" 41725 flanges. Ordered the J bends and Y pipe from Summit and the muffler too. The 2 1/4 exhaust pipe came from Napa.
I made the pipe cross over behined the transfer case, giving me about 4" to slide the case back when needed.
I got tired of using a wrench to hold the exhaust bolt, so I weld a "tee" on top to do that duty
I stopped by the muffer shop and grap this stock GM hanger from there junk bin. It just needed to be bent to fit.

Still a few items to wrap up. Need 3" clamp to the Y, and finish welding the hangers up solid. I added the 02 sensor to the drivers side down pipe.

Nice job Craig. Thanks for putting up the pictures. It looks like you are clearly tired of getting roasted by the tranny tunnel.

Time is tight when you post radiator hose mods

I have a 2" body lift and moving the engine ment some changes to the radiator hoses. I could have bought some flex hoses, but I wanted to play with my welder and modify the exsiting hoses. I cut some 2" exhaust tubing and welded a bead on the end to make a leak free connection.

Finally getting back into Scout build up mode. Made a punch list of 36 items that still need to get done. Still have some driveline mods and working on my rear axle, but most are small stuff. Got 12 knock out this past weekend.

It looks way more messy in the photos, then it really is.

I need to modify the shroud before installing it.

I did get the driveline tacked in place so I can weld it up. I tacked it in about 6 locations to hold it still for final welding.

Edit (bad plan, just put the driveline in a jig on the bench and weld, as the U-joint runs in a oblong pattern)
