Well...I thought I had Tren's email addy from an exchange we had about a year ago...but I can't locate it! He can print it off and give a copy to broChad also.

So here's a DRAFT of the doc I have in progress regarding bringing Old Iron to life. Now that I have a replacement digicam I need to get busy and shoot the pics for this so it can be completed. But we've now successfully used this process on 6+ motors in the last 90 days or so...including Drew's engine alluded to above. Good thing he did that also, otherwise the motor woulda been trashed the first time he tried to crank it over!

So we are taking the engine itself back to the machinist, and after it will get dropped off at my mechanics. We are going to finish off this thing out there (hopefully). So are there any other steps in particular once we get it oiling ect to get this puppy tuned?
what do I need to do as far as vaccum advance ect ect.
or is it all pretty standard and my mechanic should know what he is doing? I just dont want to mess up this carb settings if there are a special set of instructions to do next...
thanks,
tren

DO NOT have yore "mechanic" touch this motor UNLESS the mechanic is yore broChad!!!! We're on the same page right now and he knows MUCH more about what to do (as well as yoreself!!), than yawl did a week or three weeks ago!!! He and I talked at least five times yesterday, he's learning stuff every time we talk AND retaining it! I'm impressed!

YOU deal with getting the machine shop to make that motor oil...Chad and I will complete the tuning/dial-in AFTER it's running AND oiling in the long term. If it can't run without seizing, no need to tune it!

I know it's been a major PITA, but yawl are coming from ground zero in knowing how to deal with these engines which are NOT the same old tired Chryfordrolet chunks of cast iron! So when this one is put to bed, both of ya will know ALL the important nuances of dealing with the I-4 and SV engine series. And to make things even worse, you are messin' with a motor that had previously been scruud over and ya didn't know all this stuff going in. Now ya KNOW what to look for regarding the feasibility of "re-building" one of these motors as a hobbyist, ya gotta have a good core to start with, otherwise the financial trickledown becomes severe!

Most machine shops today have NEVER delt with an SV engine...and if they have in the past, the old farts like me who worked there 30 years ago are either retired or dead.

Maybe we need a new forum category for dealing with TRICKLEDOWN???
